This is the home hotel base for the Wales rugby team, and a top choice for other sports teams playing at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. That’s why one of the resort’s unusual features are some rugby pitches around the grounds!
Check the fixture list before booking and you might find yourself having breakfast next to some top international players from all kinds of sports including soccer, cricket, and both rugby codes. Teams including Real Madrid and Juventus have based themselves here.
There are also two championship golf courses, which have hosted European championships, the biggest spa in Wales with 19 treatment rooms, and a state-of-the-art health club and gym. The bar is always busy, and with all those sportsmen and sportswomen staying here, you know the food in the Vale Grill is going to be top quality.

Thanks to its Victorian origins the Angel got a location to die for, right by Cardiff Castle and a few minutes walk from the Principality Stadium. It’s retained its classic Victorian feel as a slightly more formal hotel, but with all mod cons of course. It has its own restaurant, Castell’s, which has a good children’s menu as the hotel offers family rooms as well as regular rooms and suites. There are some good bargains to be had, too, if you book ahead.
Citrus Hotel Cardiff
This boutique hotel is based in an old 1960s office block near the Cardiff International Arena. It’s unusual in that it doesn’t have hiked-up boutique prices but its 83 rooms are both chic and affordable. You should book well ahead for busy periods as it is a good bargain in a decent location.

With its views over Cardiff Castle, which is a 5-minute walk away, and its high local reputation for its restaurant and atmosphere, this is much more than your average city Hilton. There’s a spa and an indoor pool, and you might find yourself working out in the fitness centre next to one of the visiting celebrities who favour the Hilton. Five-star chic.
Llanerch Vineyard Hotel
Staying on a vineyard must be a temptation, and the rooms here are simple but superb, as evidenced by the many celebrities who have stayed here. Self-catering cottages and studios are also available in this peaceful setting, which is only a 20-minute drive into the city centre.

This stylish four-star Radisson hotel is right in the heart of Cardiff’s modern shopping area, just a few minutes from most of the attractions. Even the standard rooms have a sophisticated look to them, and a highlight is original Welsh art in every room. There is also free wireless access and both US and European power sockets, as well as UK ones, in all rooms. It has its own restaurant and bar, as well as a spa, gym, and indoor pool.

What was Cardiff’s first five-star hotel is unmissable on a promontory jutting out into Cardiff Bay, but the modern angled exterior belies the comfort inside. Every room has a balcony with glorious views of Cardiff Bay, and the spa and restaurant facilities are equally indulgent. The Admiral restaurant is open all day and serves lots of good Welsh produce, while the bar cocktails also highlight Welsh gins and vodkas.
