Tontine Hotel in Peebles

There’s only one Scottish Borders hotel to choose if you enjoy Lazy Days, as we do, and that’s the friendly and historic Tontine Hotel on the High Street in Peebles. We’ve stayed there a couple of times and love the hotel, the atmosphere, Peebles itself, and taking a walk along the gorgeous River Tweed. Walking is just one of the so-called Lazy Days that the hotel will help you organise, and others include cycling, walking, golf holidays, fishing vacations, visiting gardens, a book lover’s trail, and a trail for foodies.

Note that since our stay the Lazy Days packages have been renamed and much expanded, and are now called Experiences.

History of this Scottish Borders Hotel

The historic Tontine Hotel in the beautiful Scottish Borders town of Peebles has been around since the early 19th century. This former coaching inn was built between 1806 and 1808 by French prisoners of war, and is the only building along Peebles High Street to have its own courtyard, with the original cobblestones.

Today it offers guests a chance to explore the town and surrounding countryside by way of Lazy Days. Some Lazy Days breaks are more active than others, whether your interest is golf, cycling, mountain-biking, walking, books, gardens, culture, or discovering some of southern Scotland’s finest food and drink producers – from ice-cream and beer to chocolate-making.
